Stone backsplash

The cleanest surface in a kitchen is the one with no grout in it

Tile backsplashes fail in a predictable way. The tile is fine. The grout behind the cooktop turns a shade darker every year until you notice it in a photo. A stone slab does not have that problem, because there is nothing between the pieces to stain.

We cut the splash from the same slab as your countertop, so the color and the vein continue up the wall instead of stopping at the counter and starting over in a different material.

One honest limitation: we do not add a stone backsplash to a countertop that is already installed. Stone changes lot to lot, so a splash cut months later will not match the counter under it. If your counters are already in and you still want stone, we will do it in a deliberately different color so it reads as a choice, not as a failed match.

What the price covers

  • Splash cut from the same slab as the countertop
  • Full height to the underside of the cabinets, or four inch
  • Outlet cutouts drilled to your electrical layout
  • Cooktop wall and hood wall in one continuous panel where the slab allows
  • Seams color matched and filled with food safe epoxy
  • 1 year workmanship warranty on the install

Questions

Backsplash questions

Can you add a stone backsplash to counters I already have?

Not in a matching color, and we will not pretend otherwise. Natural stone varies lot to lot, so a splash cut today against a counter installed two years ago will read as almost right, which looks worse than a clear contrast. If you want stone behind existing counters, we will do it in a different color on purpose.

Full height or four inch?

Full height is the modern look and the easier surface to keep clean. Four inch is the traditional detail and uses far less material. Both come off the same slab, so it is a budget and taste decision, not a technical one.

What about the outlets?

We cut the openings during fabrication from your electrical layout. Get the outlet positions final before we template, because those holes cannot move afterward.

Is a stone splash more expensive than tile?

The material costs more and the labor costs less, because there is no setting, grouting or sealing. Ask for both numbers at the estimate and decide with real figures instead of a rule of thumb.
