Quartz
Quartz is the answer when you want the look without the upkeep
Quartz is ground stone bound with resin and pigment, pressed into a slab. That manufacturing is the whole point: it comes out non porous, so it never needs sealing and it does not absorb wine, oil or coffee the way a natural stone can.
It is also predictable. With granite, the slab is the slab. With quartz, the color you approved on a sample is the color that arrives, which is why it wins in rentals, new construction and any project where somebody has to sign off without standing in a stone yard.
Two things to know. Quartz does not take heat the way granite does, so a pan straight off the burner needs a trivet. And most quartz is not rated for direct sun, so for an uncovered patio we will point you to granite or porcelain instead.

Does quartz ever need sealing?
No. It is non porous from the factory. Warm water and a little dish soap is the whole maintenance routine.
Can I put a hot pan on quartz?
Use a trivet. The resin that binds quartz softens at temperatures a cast iron pan reaches easily, and the damage shows as a dull mark that cannot be polished out.
Can quartz go on an outdoor kitchen?
Under a fully covered lanai, sometimes, if the manufacturer rates that color for it. In direct Florida sun, no. UV yellows the resin and the slab can move. For an open patio we use granite or porcelain and tell you why.
Is quartz the same as quartzite?
No, and the names cause real confusion. Quartz is engineered in a factory. Quartzite is a natural stone cut from the earth, harder than granite, and it behaves like a natural stone: it needs sealing and every slab is unique.
Will the seam show?
Less than on most natural stone, because the pattern repeats and we can align it. On a solid color it is close to invisible. On a heavily veined quartz we lay the pieces out so the vein continues across the joint.
