Questions People Ask Before They Buy Countertops
Sixteen answers, written by the people who cut the stone. If yours is not here, call the shop and ask.
FAQ
Everything we get asked
Do you fabricate the stone yourselves or send it out?
We fabricate. The slab is cut, polished and edged at our facility on Duncan Ave in Kissimmee, and the same company installs it. Nothing is handed to an outside shop.
How long does the whole process take?
Install is normally one day. From the day we template, expect 5 to 10 days before the crew arrives with the finished tops.
Do you work in 2 cm or 3 cm?
We specialize in 3 cm. We also fabricate 2 cm when a color is not available in 3 cm. We do not work with 1 cm granite, and for a thin profile we use porcelain.
Will my countertop have seams?
Most kitchens need at least one, because slabs come in a fixed size. We place seams where they read the least, color match them and fill them with a food safe epoxy that cures in about an hour.
Do you remove the old countertops?
You can do it yourself, or we can remove and haul the material away for an additional charge. Decide at the estimate so it is in the number.
Do you reconnect plumbing, gas or electrical?
No. Countertops only. We are not licensed for those trades, so have a plumber lined up for the day after the install.
How much overhang can I have?
Up to 12 inches unsupported, following the two thirds rule. Past 12 inches you need brackets, and they must be installed before we arrive.
Can you match the stone that is already in my house?
No, and we will not pretend to. Natural stone varies lot to lot. What we do instead is help you choose a fresh slab. When a job depends on an exact match, we tell you it is not going to work rather than take it.
What should I expect on install day?
Dust. Clear out the lower cabinets, keep kids and pets in another room, and expect that we may cut into drywall where the old splash was. It is normally a single day.
Do the cabinets have to be finished first?
Yes. They have to be set and screwed to the wall before we template. For an outdoor kitchen, the frame has to be built.
Can I use my own sink?
Yes. Have it on site at template so we cut the opening to that exact bowl. We can also fabricate a sink from the same slab if you want no seam at the bowl.
Do you install just a backsplash?
In stone, yes. But we do not add a stone splash to a countertop that is already installed, because it will not match. If your counters are already in, we will do the splash in a deliberately different color.
How do I take care of the stone?
Warm water and a little dish soap daily. A pH neutral stone cleaner for a deep clean. Never bleach, vinegar or ammonia. Seal natural stone about every six months. Full detail on our care and maintenance page.
What does it cost?
It depends on the material, the square footage, the edge and the cutouts, and any number we gave you here would be wrong. The estimate is free. For a simple job you can send photos and measurements and we will quote from those without a visit.
How far do you travel?
Roughly 60 miles from Kissimmee. That covers Orlando, St. Cloud, Davenport, Winter Park, Clermont, Celebration and most of Central Florida. Past that line, call us and we will tell you honestly whether the trip works.
Is there a warranty?
Every install carries a 1 year workmanship warranty from us. The stone itself carries the manufacturer warranty, which varies by material.
